We at Ozarks Philharmonic Youth Orchestras hope you and your family are well as we move into summer! OPYO has been strategizing about its future programs, and we want to hear from music teachers, students, and families in the NWA and surrounding areas about how we can best serve our young musicians.
If you could take a few minutes to fill out our brief survey, we would love to hear from you! It should only take a few minutes to complete. Feel free to forward this link to anyone in your circle.
Per Arkansas official guidelines and school closures, we are extending our cancellations through Friday, April 17. Possible next rehearsal: Monday, April 20, if we are allowed to do so.
The concerto competition will be going forward in an online/virtual format on Saturday, April 4. Details to follow!
After discussing the current situation regarding the Coronavirus with the OPYO staff and board members, we are planning to cancel OPYO rehearsals on March 16, March 23, and March 30, following local school districts' decision to cancel extracurricular activities. After that we will see what the situation is and make further arrangements as necessary.
We decided to "wait and see" whether we cancel the concerto competition/recital scheduled for Saturday, April 4. If you/your student is preparing for the competition/recital, please continue to prepare as if it will be held.
For now we are not going to postpone the spring concert (scheduled for May 11), but of course we may have a change in plans later depending on how the current situation plays out.
Rehearsals for the spring semester begin Monday, January 27, 2020.
It's not too late to join OPYO! We are looking for young musicians from ages 8 to 22 who would like to push their stills a little further and advance more rapidly on their instrument, or who just want a new musical outlet. We offer three levels of ensembles and students are placed based on their musical ability in order to enjoy the most success. We will take new students into the month of February. Interested in joining? Check out our audition page and send us a recorded audition. Contact us if you have any further questions.
Are you a band student? We have several openings for woodwinds and brass players. Playing in an orchestral setting will open up a whole new repertoire to you. Our YSO ensemble is our advanced group and accepts advanced string, woodwind and brass players, as well as percussionists. Contact us today if you think you might be interested. You are always welcome to sit in on a rehearsal at no cost to see if you like it.
Join us for an evening of inspirational music prepared by our talented young musicians!

We are excited to announce our new YSO conductor and artistic director, Dr. Robert Mueller, who will be joining us for the upcoming season! We will be holding two audition sessions for the fall:
Rehearsals will be held each Monday evening, from 6-8pm, at Arkansas Arts Academy (7-12 campus), 506 W. Poplar in Rogers. The first rehearsal will be Monday, September 9.
We look forward to Dr. Mueller's leadership and musical training for our students. Below is a message from our new director:
Greetings to all OPYO musicians and families,
My name is Dr. Robert Mueller, and I'm currently Professor of Music at the University of Arkansas, where I conduct the University Symphony Orchestra and teach music composition. I am honored to accept the position as OPYO's Artistic Director and conductor of the YSO this season, and I look forward to hearing your auditions next month.
OPYO has had a long history of excellence in training young orchestral musicians, and in fact my own three children all played in the OPYO program for many years. It will be a pleasure to explore exciting orchestral repertoire with you in the upcoming seasons.
