OPYO consists of three leveled ensembles: Youth Symphony of the Ozarks (YSO) is our advanced ensemble and full orchestra with strings, winds, and percussion. Andante and Presto are beginning and in intermediate leveled ensembles respectively. Your audition will determine which ensemble you will be placed in.

If you missed the audition, we also accept recorded audition sent to us via email. Simply record your student playing a scale and a solo and send it to us. We accept new students a few weeks into each semester, so contact us if you are interested.
Audition Requirements: Musicians auditioning for ANDANTE:
One-octave major or minor scale of your choice.
A solo excerpt that demonstrates your best playing (3 minutes or less) or orchestra music you are currently playing in your school ensemble (3 minutes or less).
Musicians auditioning for PRESTO:
Two-octave scale of your choice
A solo excerpt that demonstrates your best playing (3 minutes or less) or orchestra music you are currently playing in your school ensemble (3 minutes or less).
Musicians auditioning for YOUTH SYMPHONY OF THE OZARKS (YSO):
Strings: A three-octave scale of your choice.
Strings: A solo excerpt that demonstrates your best playing. (3 minutes or less)
For woodwind, brass, and percussion: A solo excerpt that demonstrates your best playing. (3 minutes or less)
Who needs to audition?
ALL musicians NEW to OPYO.
ALL members who DID NOT participate the last season.
Returning OPYO members who wish to move up to a more advanced ensemble. (Andante to Presto or Presto to YSO.)
I can't make the live audition times. Can I audition after the posted dates and times? Yes, however live auditions are preferred. Late auditions are contingent on ensemble space and conductor approval. Please complete the online registration form and email a video of your audition to: youthorchestras@gmail.com. Audition videos must be continuous, unedited, and include all scales and excerpts. After review, an OPYO conductor will contact you with results and further information.
